Wæver, Ole. 1995. In On Security, edited by Ronnie D. Lipschutz, 46-87. 1st edition. New York: Columbia University Press.

An interesting chapter that establishes the groundwork for one other source in this bibliographic resource list: See Gomes and Marques (2021). In sum, the chapter offers a theoretical debate on how security is studied within the field of IR, and the chapter emphasises that language is a substantial part of how and why some issues are prioritised in security studies and policies. In other words, the terms securitization and desecuritization offer relevant insights into how certain topics become relevant in the political realm by the “art of speech”.
