Van den Dungen, Peter, and Lawrence S. Wittner. 2003. Journal of Peace Research 40, no. 4: 363-375.

This piece provides an introduction to Peace Studies within History, emphasising the social nature of the study. Dungen and Wittner stress the importance of peace studies within history as ‘rediscovering’ those previously ommitted from historical research, focusing on grassroot organisations and social justice movements. There is a focus on the scholarly works of the historical study of peace, meaning it is aimed more towards those interested in academia. Additionally, they argue that peace studies are diverse, and not just subject to western investigation.
