Queering Women, Peace and Security
Hagen, Jamie J. (2016) International Affairs (Royal Institute of International Affairs 1944-) 92, no. 2
This article highlights the severe lack of queer perspective in security studies, which is an essential element of peacebuilding. More specifically, Hagen examines the UN Security Council Resolution 1325, acknowledging its merits while also inscribing it in a heteronormative understanding of peacekeeping and women’s identities and rights. Ultimately, this article serves as an encouragement to develop a wider literature of studies on LGBTQ+ perspectives in IR, so that tactics of peacebuilding can be informed of alternative issues to be addressed.
