The effectiveness of Peace Education Learning Models Toward Students

This article is in a response to the phenomenon of student conflict and violence that occurs in universities and further argues for the development of peace education to be based on jurisprudential inquiry, which is a model that approaches issues by dividing a class between issue viewpoints. Jurisprudential inquiry assumes social values legally conflict with one another’s ability to resolve complex and controversial issues. The article reviews the author’s research on studies of such a model and reveals the importance of peace-loving and antiviolence to be incorporated at a university level where students, unlike children, have deep-rooted beliefs and views surrounding peace and war. The studies were designed with experiment classes that were given a jurisprudential inquiry-based peace education model, while the control class were taught peace without such model. This article is really interesting in the way it is reflective of quantitative data rather than solely qualitative research methods and revealed that while students typically understand the natural presence of conflict and the importance of peace, the ways to navigate such concepts are often taught in traditional peace education without relevance to students differing existing behaviors and skillsets.
