The Glorious Art of Peace: From the Iliad to Iraq
Gittings, John. 2012.
A very good resource for both general peace studies and classic peace studies. Gittings’ aim is to re-examine the way peace is perceived and give arguments for how peace studies should be understood, as well as proving how peace is the natural and aimed state of humanity. The introduction gives a very broad exploration of peace studies and peace in general. Chapter 2 looks specifically at “Ancient peace”, looking at how typical war narratives of Ancient Greece actually held important peace narratives and sensibilities, as well as analysing the way peace was handled in pre-imperial China.
