Lerner, Laurence. 1995. New Literary History 26, no. 3: 641–65.

This text analyzes the notion that Peace Studies should be viewed as a new critical perspective through which literature can be studied, much like feminism, racial, or queer studies. In particular, the article offers specific literary examples from John Milton and Shakespeare to show the potential limitations of a pacifist reading, namely the dangers of misinterpretation. One potential limitation, however, is with regards to the article’s date as the field of Peace Studies has evolved significantly since the text’s publication in 1995.
