Gordon, Haim. 1990.  The Centennial Review 34, no. 4: 577–86.

This text explores the personal experiences of its author, Haim Gordon, as an educator, recalling an instance where he was called to teach Jewish and Arab students in Israel in a project called, “Education for Peace on the Basis of Martin Buber’s Philosophy”. Gordon explains how his students struggled to relate to European writers such as Kafka, Dostoyevsky, and Buber, but a major shift for his students occurred when he discovered the works of Naguib Mahfouz, an Arab write. The article asserts that literature can be used to build peace through education and investigates how relatability with the authorial voice should be taken into consideration.
