Vonnegut, Kurt. 2016. In If This Isn’t Nice, What Is? Edited by Dan Wakefield. New York: Seven Stories Press.

A 1970 commencement speech from Kurt Vonnegut, in which he argues that art restores innocence and optimism in its creators and its consumers alike. He advises students to “skylark,” or shirk duty, when they are young, and then return to the world’s problems when they are old and learned enough to understand and begin to amend them.
