In this introduction to a literary journal, David Higgins analyzes the political undertones in novels such as Frank Herbert’s Dune and Arthur C. Clarke’s 2001: A Space Odyssey, particularly as those political themes relate to decolonization and the resulting political violence which occured in the 1960s and 1970s.
